Interlude: Cycles of Light and Life
- December 31, 2006
Bright The Day

Greetings, and welcome to another issue of e-divine, the newsletter dedicated to helping you Build a Better Life and a Better World through the Spiritual Practice of Everyday Life.

While this issue was originally intended to be number six in the series on the Seven Cs of Spiritual Coaching, it felt important to take a moment to focus on another topic, and I trust the reasons for heeding that call will become clear below. Don’t fret though – the next issue will continue our focus on the Seven Cs of Spiritual Coaching!

This newsletter is meant to serve you. I would love to hear your feedback on what inspires you, what resonates for you, and how I can do more of both of those! Please don't hesitate to send your comments, insights and suggestions to me at adam@dailydivine.com!

Enjoy!

Interlude: Cycles of Light and Life

We have passed the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year that also celebrates the return of light to the world, and tonight we ring in a New Year, and celebrate the new opportunities marked by the turn of calendar page. To me the time between these two celebrations feels densely packed with hope and grief, with both remembrance and anticipation.

This year in particular, I have been amazed by the meaning that has been packed in to just a few days. In the last ten days…

I have toasted my cousin's wedding, and delighted in hearing her and her partner speak of the possibilities and adventures that lie ahead.

I have mourned my uncle's passing, and shared joy and grief, and the telling of tales about a man of wit and charm, who was well-known and well-loved by so many.

I have truly come to a place of peace and acceptance, saying farewell to an old love after a decade of mourning his passing, and embracing the remembrance of his vibrant life.

I have shared in the abundance of wonderful food and in the delight of the company of family, friends and loved ones, celebrating with laughter and good cheer, and with quiet smiles and tender hugs.

Today I recognize that I, that those I love and hold dear, and that you, and all those you cherish, have come so far to reach this time and this place. I honour and celebrate our strength and resilience that have carried us through our varied pasts to meet in this amazing present, and likewise honour and celebrate the vulnerability and openness that have allowed us all to learn so much, and connect to so many, along the way.

Moreover, I take comfort and delight in the anticipation of journeying together through our individual and shared futures, as we share our light, and our lives, with the world.

Practice Tip: New Year's resolutions are often made, but rarely kept. The tension and tumult of the world around us can often pull us away from pursuing the very things we have RESOLVED to make manifest in our lives. As you plan the year to come, I invite to include in your planning support for yourself.

Write down some BOLD goals for yourself for the year ahead. Make them exciting, so they can inspire you, and specific, so that you can clearly visualize what it would be like to achieve those goals. Then take a moment to jot down how you can help support yourself in achieving those goals, and who you can share them with, so they can help too! What daily practices will provide you with the energy you will need? Who can help hold your bold vision for the future? What will you do to refresh and revitalize yourself in the moments of challenge or stress?

I also invite you to email me at adam@dailydivine.com, and share your vision with me. I would love to help hold your bold vision for the future, and help you achieve daily passion, purpose and prosperity for the year to come!

Calling-Focused: The Sixth of the Seven Cs of Spiritual Coaching

Wind To Thy Wings

In each issue I will highlight a resource I think you'll find powerful and uplifting. If you have a suggestion for a book, movie, album or other resource that you have found significant in your journey, and would like to share with others, I would love to hear from you – email your suggestions to adam@dailydivine.com!

Today's resource comes to us from Holly and John Stardom, dear friends of mine who are helping to shape the future of Canada in their respective leadership roles at the Public Health Agency of Canada and Statistics Canada. Holly and John's pick is a wonderful children's book entitled Only One You, written and illustrated by Linda Kranz.

This whimsical book contains simple yet powerful wisdom and insights that can help comfort and guide all of us as we go about exploring the world. It is an excellent resource for the children in all of us, and a lovely way to light up the New Year. Thank you, Holly and John!
