Calling-Focused: The Sixth of the Seven Cs of Spiritual Coaching

Mama Cass Elliott once sang 'you've gotta make your own kind of music, sing your own special song.' Yet all too often we stop grooving to our own rhythms so that we can blend harmoniously with the hymns that echo around us.

Often, it is at the very moment that we seem to have perfected blending our mimicked music with the masses that we notice we are in incredible pain. That pain, that heart-ache, is our soul crying out in anguish as it dies a little more every day, a little more every time we sing words not our own.

One of the most quoted lines of English literature is Shakespeare's 'To thine own self be true,' and with good reason. In order to truly grow and thrive, it is vital that we learn to boldly belt out the songs we were born to sing. Whatever the accolades or riches that might beckon from other tempting tunes, it is only by sounding out the songs of our souls that we can find true and lasting fulfillment.

Practice Tip: This one's all yours to create! Spend a moment thinking of something you can do that will feed you heart and soul, something that you can enjoy all on your own. What do you yearn to do, but restrain yourself with thoughts of what others would think, or of what's appropriate? Choose something positive, something powerful, something that is uniquely you – and then go and do it!

Community-Driven: The Seventh of the Seven Cs of Spiritual Coaching

Wind To Thy Wings

In each issue I will highlight a resource I think you'll find powerful and uplifting. If you have a suggestion for a book, movie, album or other resource that you have found significant in your journey, and would like to share with others, I would love to hear from you – email your suggestions to adam@dailydivine.com!

Today's resource is a relatively recent discovery, the animated feature film Happy Feet. Nominated just yesterday for an Academy Award, this heart-warming tale gets your toes tapping and your heart singing, as it delivers a powerful message about staying true to the music of your soul. Given its Oscar contender status, this film is sure to keep playing in theatres across North America for the next little while – so treat yourself and someone you love to a night out at the movies!
